Short Bio (簡介)
Chih-Chung Hsu (許志仲) is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Smart Industry and Green Energy, College of Artificial Intelligence, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), Taiwan, and an IEEE Senior Member. He also holds an adjunct position at the Institute of Data Science, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU). He leads the Advanced Computer Vision Lab (ACVLab), whose mission — Assured Computer Vision: Lean, Autonomous, Broad-Spectrum — drives four interlocking research pillars: assured visual intelligence that makes AI outputs trustworthy for forensic and safety-critical decisions, from AI-generated-content detection to proactive media authentication; lean visual architectures that rethink computation at every abstraction level — bitstream-level analysis, prefix-scan attention, quantization-aware training — to run on edge, satellite, and real-time systems; autonomous visual perception that extends vision into 3D for material-aware reconstruction, self-driving defense, and embodied agents; and broad-spectrum scientific sensing that pushes perception beyond RGB into hyperspectral satellite imagery for Earth observation and environmental monitoring.
He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in 2014, advised by Prof. Chia-Wen Lin. His work has appeared in top venues including IEEE/CVF CVPR, IEEE TGRS, TIFS, TPAMI, TIP, IJCV, and ACM Multimedia. He has received the Future Technology Award (未來科技獎) in both 2024 and 2025, and his team has earned over 30 international competition awards at CVPR, ICCV, WACV, NeurIPS, and ACM MM, among others.
Research Focus. ACVLab builds deployment-grade visual intelligence across four pillars: Assured Visual Intelligence — detecting AI-generated content, defending against adversarial attacks, and authenticating media in an era of generative AI (GRACEv2, UMCL, DDD-Net); Lean Visual Architectures — rethinking where and how computation happens, from bitstream-level forensics to prefix-scan attention kernels and adaptive quantization (ELSA, QuantTune); Autonomous Visual Perception — 3D material-aware reconstruction, self-driving scene understanding, and embodied robotic perception (PhaSR, ReflexSplit); and Broad-Spectrum Scientific Sensing — hyperspectral restoration, satellite compressed sensing, and cross-spectral forensics for climate and Earth observation (PromptHSI, CubeSat CS). These pillars routinely interlock: hyperspectral forgery detection merges trust with spectral sensing, and on-satellite real-time inference merges efficiency with broad-spectrum data. The lab’s work has been recognized with the Future Technology Award (未來科技獎) in both 2024 and 2025.
